When did we reveal the surprise?
We had a 75 Years of Service Reception for Daryl & Kathy on Sunday, December 8th.
The first surprise was a blessing at mass (the expressions on their faces were priceless...little did they know what was to come...), the second surprise was their 75 Years of Service Reception after mass. And as a third surprise, Daryl and Kathy were given a statue of almost saint Pope John Paul II along with a certificate for a trip to Rome for 2! Muffins and juice were enjoyed by those who were able to attend.

Why... What would be a more beautiful gift from their community, school, and family than a trip to Rome for the canonization of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII?
WHY is this such a special gift?
Some time in September of this year, Kathy mentioned in conversation how she has always dreamed of going to Pope John Paul II's canonization. At the time, she thought his canonization would be this October 2013 and knew she would not be able to go because she had a very important wedding to attend (her son's!). Recently, though, she and Daryl learned that his canonization is scheduled for April 2014 along with Pope John XXIII. Both Daryl and Kathy have brought up this wonderful news many times--and their excitement shows when they talk about it. Although they have not mentioned the possibility of a trip to Rome for the canonizations, they have reminisced about how John XXIII was pope when they were young-in's during the time of Vatican II and how inspirational JPII was for so many. Daryl and Kathy even went to World Youth Day in Denver and saw Pope John Paul II who will forever be dear to their hearts. Many times, the practical routines of life hold us back from experiences we dream about. Our hope is that we can make this dream come true by organizing and funding a surprise trip for two people who do so much for so many with only the benefit of others in mind.
